This E-Mail was sent to me by Skip Van Lenten on January 31, 2013:

Bob,

I got your e-mail address from Bill Hodde, one of my classmates, who like myself, is a former Marine. He suggested I send you some information about my service.

I joined the Marine Corps late in 1962, the same year I graduated HHS. Went to Parris Island in January, 1963, followed by a 13-month tour in Okinawa, Japan, Hawaii, Taiwan, and the Philippines. Returned to
Camp Pendleton, CA, to take part in amphibious training in a newly formed Marine Raider Company. Sent to Vietnam aboard the USS Valley Forge to patrol the China Sea, 1964, and returned to Okinawa briefly in 1965. Landed in Vietnam for the first U.S. offensive, "Operation Starlight," and spent all of '65 in various locations around Vietnam. Sustained shrapnel wounds in February, 1966, and medically discharged in November, 1966.
